Wendy's new TV ad campaign

Wendy's has a new ad campaign that is built around the slogan "That's right!" The campaign debuted during the season finale of American Idol. Wendy's has been trying hard to recapture the effectiveness of their former ads featuring Wendy's founder Dave Thomas before his death in 2002. Thomas appeared in over 800 ads in 12 years for the #3 burger chain.

"Wendy's has got this great legacy and heritage," said Kevin Roberts, Worldwide CEO for ad agency Saatchi & Saatchi. "I think many agencies have struggled with how do you replace Dave. I think here we haven't replaced him. We've taken what he said and what he thought and given it to the consumer. Now Dave is not the boss, but the consumer is the boss."

Here's one of the new "That's Right!" ads:

When I watch that commercial, I see much more Will Ferrell rip-off humor than any echo of Dave Thomas's spirit.

I've been in the ad/marketing business for 25 years, and this is one of the worst ads I've seen. I think they forgot to think about their audience.

Every time this ad comes on, I am reminded of how much it irritates me. Especially the guy with the Wendy wig. There must be better ways to make the fresh/frozen point. If in fact it's a worthy point to make - does anyone really care?

Can anyone in the universe explain to me why they are kicking trees? I get the rest of the commercial (don't like it, but get it) but the tree-kickers stump me, so to speak.

I'm a finalist in Wendy's Build a Better Burger competition that is a part of their new ad campaign. Check out my burger at www.thisismyburger.com and vote for it if you please. It's the Philly Hoagie Burger by Ian V.

Thanks guys!

Personaly, I thought the new wendy's commercials were stupid. no offense guys, but instead of Dave Thomas's memory, all I get from the ads are that obsessing over the Wendy's prouducts is "right", and fresh beef is essential to the perfect burger. (which probably is, but anyway...).
good luck with future commercials.
